Instead of saying, “a little while ago,” or “last week,” to preface a story, say “When I was younger.” Technically it’s true and people will give you the look of confused wonder the dog gives a ceiling fan.
“Did you get the new Imperial Dogfarts album?”
“Yeah I bought it when I was younger.”
“It’s only been out since Tuesday.”
“No shit. I was younger Tuesday than I am today.
I am an immensely strange man.

One time I was retelling a story to my (now ex-) boyfriend, and I meant to say “When I was younger”, but somehow it came out as “Back when I was alive”. We both had a good laugh and it became a running joke between us.
